How many of you hear the word "chakra" and your mind is instantly filled with the image of someone sitting Indian-style with their fingers together, meditating? Don't be embarrassed, that's the thought that many people first have. While meditating is amazing for the mind, body and spirit, we understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea. For those who want to get their body back in balance without taking the time to meditate, chakras will do just that.
So, what the heck are chakras? In simple terms, they're what make you feel balanced and complete. In more spiritual terms, they're seven spinning wheels of energy in our bodies that affect our health, well-being and beauty.
"The chakra system is the symbolic presentation of energies which exist in the body influenced by the subconscious mind. Yoga and meditation help you awaken those energies for the most balanced state of body, mind and soul." -The Drs. Upadhyay, Maharshi Bhardwaj Clinic & Research Centre, India
How do chakras work you ask? Well, each day you may experience a different chakra being out of balance. Sometimes it may be the same chakra each time a journey is done. On your "sensory journey", you'll be shown cards with representations of all seven chakras. As odd as it may sound, one will just pop out to you. It will call out to you and you just know that this chakra is the one that needs to be balanced. Your body is physically telling you.
Each different chakra represents a different type of balance. They each have different aromas, elements and colors as well. Once you find out which of your chakras is out of balance, you can follow the different techniques of meditation, mantras, breaths and nutrition that is recommended.
If you're looking to take a sensory journey to find out which chakra may be out of balance for you, we'd be happy to do this for you at your next appointment. If you're looking for a more instant option, you can head over to Mister Chakra and click on the "Take a Sensory Journey" button.

Another season, another amazing Aveda makeup collection. This Spring, Aveda created the "Indian Sunset" Limited Edition Spring/Summer 2016 collection. It includes four beautiful eye shadows, two super pigmented glosses, two creamy Nourish-Mint lipsticks, a great neutral pink lip liner and two bold eye liners.
Aveda Single Eye Colors
Eye shadow is one of the items that many women don't include in their daily routine. Some save it for nights when they're going out. Some decide not to mess with it at all because it seems complicated and too advanced. Luckily, Aveda eye shadows are great for anyone from a beginner (since they're give a nice, natural finish) to someone who is more advanced (because they're buildable and can be used to create super dramatic looks, if needed).
Lilac Glow: a light Lilac shade that would look lovely as a brow bone highlight or a lid shade with a little glow.
Amethyst Dawn: The perfect purple shade to brighten up your spring look; would look great as a lid shade.
Peach Nectar: Talk about the perfect crease color--especially for those with blue eyes or olive skin.
Desert Clay: To smoke out your eye look without going to dark, this warm brown shade is ideal.
Aveda Eye Definer
Whether you're a natural gal or someone who opts for a more glam look, eye liner is a staple in many women's makeup routines because of the definition they're able to achieve by using the product. We love Aveda liners since they're incredibly easy to work with and will stay all day.
Violet Blossom: For those who love a black liner, but want something a bit more bold and interesting.
Sea Fern: The perfect choice when you want to incorporate color into an otherwise neutral eye look.
Aveda Nourish-Mint Lip Liner
This step is one that many people forgo, but can make a world of difference when done correctly. Whether you're outlining your lips for the perfect lipstick application or over lining to make your lips look fuller, a lip liner is a must in everyone's makeup routine.
Spring Rose: This lip liner is the perfect option no matter what lip color you're going for. It's incredibly close to a natural lip color, so you can easily over line your lips and cover with lipstick or keep things natural and use this liner alone.
Aveda Nourish-Mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze
These glosses are the perfect mix between shiny, hydrating and pigmented. They have the pigmentation of a lip stain or lip stick, the hydration of a lip balm and the shine of a lip gloss. Talk about the perfect multi-tasker.
Cherry Nectar: If Taylor Swift could pick any Lip Glaze, chances are it would be this one. Obviously, it's the perfect red, but it also has a glossy finish that will make any lady's lips look fuller.
Rose Dusk: This lip glaze is the definition of "your lips but better". Toss this on with a little mascara and blush, and you're good to go.
Aveda Nourish-Mint Lipstick
We find that many neutral gals and those who are just getting into wearing a lipstick always fall in love with the Nourish-Mint lipsticks. Since they're so hydrating and not super pigmented, they give a nice satin finish on the lips and will leave you with just enough color to tell that you're wearing something.
Pink Peppertree: Are you used to simple neutrals and want something fun and unique for spring and summer? Look no further! This neon coral tone is one of Emma's favorites!
Sheer Clove: Brown-toned lipsticks are everywhere right now because the 90s beauty trends are making their way back onto our vanities. While this lipstick helps you stay up with the trends, it's not overpowering and doesn't make you look like you're stuck in the 90s, more like you chose to be there.
If you'd like to experience the Indian Sunset collection for yourself, make sure to make your appointment for our spring makeup event on Saturday, March 26th. You can book your 45-minute one-on-one session between 10am and 1:30pm for only $25. Space is limited. Call now to book: 413-322-9799.
